Does DIRECTV work without internet? Yes — satellite does, and we install it where fiber never came.

What works with no internet

• Every live channel in your package — locals, news, sports, movies, all delivered by satellite.
• Recording and playback. The Genie DVR records to its own hard drive; no internet needed.
• Multiple TVs. Additional receivers connect over the coax we run — again, no Wi-Fi involved.

What does need internet (and what to do instead)

• On-demand libraries and streaming apps on the receiver pull over the internet. Without it, you still have live TV and your own recordings — most rural customers record what they want instead.
• The DIRECTV phone app needs data. If you’d like it, a modest cell plan is enough for phone viewing.
• DIRECTV via Internet (the streaming version) obviously needs a good connection — so for no-internet homes, satellite is the right product, full stop.

Do I need a clear view of the sky?

The dish needs a line of sight to the southern sky. On most rural properties that’s easy — a roof, an eave or a pole mount away from the tree line. We check before we start, and if the trees truly block it we’ll tell you rather than install something that won’t hold a signal.

Where we install

A 45-mile radius from our Mooresville office: rural Iredell County, Catawba and Lincoln County, the Lake Norman shoreline, Troutman, Sherrills Ford, Denver and out toward Statesville and Salisbury. Long driveways, manufactured homes and hunting cabins are a normal day for us.

What about weather?

Heavy storms can interrupt the signal for a few minutes while the worst passes. A correctly aimed, sealed install keeps that to a minimum — and it usually comes back long before a cable outage would.
